Maryam in Islam

Let's here look at the Mary in Islam and Bible.

First let's look at Quran Surah 19:28

When this ayah revealed, Muslims understood this ayah as Mary as the sister Aaron and not metaphorically called "sister of Aaron".

You can see Aisha, the mother of the Believers also used to believe that Mother of Issa (Maryam) is the Sister of Aaron. (i.e she believed Aaron as the Maternal Uncle of Jesus). In the non-abridged version of Tafsir Ibn Kathir of 19:28, it stated about this.

This is also mentioned in Tafsir of al-Tabari 19:28

So why did Ka'b intepreted it differently than Aisha, and she become silent when Ka'b refuted her by even saying the gap between Jesus and Moses. Let's see that how this verse got intepreted differently than it's original interpretation.

When you read a hadith, you can see, Christians in Najaran questioned it and told about the gap between Moses and Jesus. Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3155

So after this incident, when Muhammad and his followers found out this mistake, they try to teach it differently.

In Bible Exodus 6:20Exodus 15:20Micah 6:4Numbers 26:59 we can see that Miriam is the sister of Aaron and Moses, and their father is Amram.

That means when Muhammad tries to copy, he made a mistake, when Najaran's Christians pointed it out. He twisted it.

Heli is the father of Mary in Bible, it is believed that Heli adopted Joseph husband of Mary. And Joseph's father was Jacob according to Matthew 1:16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. (biblehub.com)

Now look at Quran Surah 3:35-36 we will know that father of Mary in Islam is Imran/Amram.

That is, Muhammad got really confused and revealed these ayahs.

In short, father of Mary in Islam is Imran/Amram who was lived about 1300 years before Jesus.

Now you know the difference in family. Then look at other situations in Quran.

Read Quran 19:17, this is regarding the birth of Jesus.

From this we understand that the spirit of Allah (Muslims usually refer this as Gibreel, anyways), come to Maryam as a well-proportioned human, to whom she took her veil apart.

This much can be understood from this ayah; reading the remaining ayahs we ge to know that this is for the birth of Issa.

What does this Spirit of Allah who comes to Maryam in complete human form do? He, blew into her vagina. This can be seen in Quran 66:12. The arabic word used is فَرْجَهَا (her vagina | farjaha)

See the translation using Google Translator below.

This (in the Quran) is actually insulting the Maryam, that a well-proportioned human blew into the vagina of Maryam inorder to give her a son. Not even an Angel or Spirit of Allah, but a well-proportioned human.

Now we will see what Bible taught.

In Matthew 1:18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. (biblehub.com)

Note that there is NO HUMAN INTERVENTION and NO BLOWING INTO PRIVATE PARTS regarding the birth of Jesus Christ in Bible unlike in Quran which makes it vulgur.

In Islam, Gibreel (almost all Muslims belive; even though Quran states it as Allah's Spirit; anyway it's in Human form that is what this makes vulgur in Quran) is the one who make Maryam pregnant by blowing into her vagina. But, in Bible, it clearly states that Gabriel visited Mary to only convey the message about the virgin birth of Mary through Holy Spirit. Luke 1:30-32

From, this we understand, Angel Gabriel is not the cause of birth of Jesus Christ, but the angel was used ONLY TO CONVEY the great news.

Here is a quotation from Ibn Kathir which says the most disgusting thing about mother of Jesus, Mary:

"The Messenger of God ... said, ‘God MARRIED ME IN PARADISE TO MARY THE DAUGHTER OF 'IMRAN and to the wife of Pharaoh and the sister of Moses.’ (Tabarani)" (Ibn Kathir, Qisas al-Anbiya [Cairo: Dar al-Kutub, 1968/1388], p. 381- as cited in Aliah Schleifer's Mary The Blessed Virgin of Islam [Fons Vitae; ISBN: 1887752021; July 1, 1998], p. 64; bold and capital emphasis ours)

We will discuss about this more in another post.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
